Flexible Seating
In my classroom I have flexible seating options. Both Highcroft and Wake County encourage the use of flexible seating within a classroom. There are many different options for students to choose from, in order to find a space that they work well in. Flexible seating options are presented to students as learning spaces and heavily structured initially. I will spend the first few weeks of the school year rotating students through flexible seating options, to observe where students work best. There are many reasons to use flexible seating within a classroom. Some such reasons include: improving student focus, increasing classroom collaboration, and encouraging students to make responsible decision. Along with flexible seating options, I also keep traditional student desks and chairs for students who feel they learn best in those types of seats.
